It was a very rainy and windy night … more than 20mm had fallen. Luckily I put my tent up on a little , tiny hill… because there were giant puddles of water all around me when I woke in the middle of the night.
The day was also filled with intermittent showers. I was hiding from one of them, speaking to an ex- PNG colleague – when I see another ex- PNG colleague walking up the road… I thought about it and thought I was going crazy.
I messaged him later, after having had a pizza and cider at the Grain Store and low and behold…it was him. He just moved a week ago! We had a quick catch up, as he had some plans later … what a small world !
I went up to Fort Scratchley and did a self guided tour as I again avoided the rain! The fort was built in 1881. It was used to defend Newcastle once … from a Japanese submarine attack in 1942 but never again.
After this I headed back to Stockton on the ferry over the Hunter River. I watched another huge coal ship coming in to harbour…so huge !! Very impressive !
