Valparaiso

There are funiculars and stairs and narrow passages and roadways that get you lost in the most colourful city in Chile- if not the world! The town is most well-known for its spectacular street art and Bohemian vibe. It’s not something that’s easy to describe- so I’m just going to spam you with photos.

This city was once known as the Pearl of the Pacific as it was a crucial stop and port for those travelling around the South American continent. The traffic through here changed dramatically in 1914 though- when the Panama Canal opened and ships no longer had to go around the horn.

Barring this importance, it was never planned to be a big town- which shows in the extremely winding streets that go nowhere and everywhere and don’t join where you would like them to! There is a small strip of reclaimed land between the see and the hills; however, then it’s a steep climb to all the neighbourhoods- I know I did a 600m walk up those hills with my backpack and all the kit, coming from the bus station. The whole town is made up of hills- and unlike most places in the world, property prices decrease as you go further up the hill!

Widac, ze biednie ale bardzo czysto. Tez masz takie wrazenie? Ciekawe skad maja pieniadze na te piekne malowidla? Miasto piekne. Nie podoba mi sie ze nie moge dawac LIKE na kazde zdjecie. Robisz zdjecia wczesniej rano? Nie widac ludzi.

The murals are absolutely fantastic and must be a tourist’s and a photographer’s delight! Are the ;people naturally artistic, or are these murals professionally created to client’s specifications? You are going to have much to recall and your blog is an excellent of capturing your impressions at the time as visually you can trace the journey of your holiday.

It is now so well known, that the artists are drawn to the town. As a home owner you can paint the outside of your house, or get a commissioned piece of art. If an artist wants to paint on a public building, then a proposal is done to the council, and if approved the council will pay for the paint too.
